Navigating Oklahoma’s highways often means being aware of large vehicles that are frequently seen on the roads. Vehicles like large pickup trucks can be involved in serious accidents if the driver is not paying strict attention to the road and following the laws. Sadly, someone lost their life recently in an accident involving a truck and authorities believe the truck driver was at fault.
What caused the accident?
The crash happened on a recent Sunday afternoon in Oklahoma City. A truck was traveling near the intersection of N 23rd Street and Jordan Avenue when he struck several other vehicles. Witnesses at the scene say the truck was driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed in the moments leading up to the accident. One person was killed in the collision and several others were injured.
The truck driver was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police obtained a warrant to have his blood tested for drugs and/or alcohol. It was determined he was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. He’s now facing multiple charges, including a charge of second-degree murder.
Victims and families have rights after an accident
In this case, the injured victims, and the family of the deceased individual, have the right to take civil action against the accused negligent driver. Victims and families should understand that a civil lawsuit will be handled separately from any criminal charges. A successful lawsuit can provide victims, or families of those who were killed, compensation to help ease the financial burden that often comes after a serious motor vehicle crash.
